Startups on the Red Herring radar
Red Herring, June, 1998
Jonathan Taplin, Bob Dylan's former tour manager and Martin
Scorsese's first producer, is trying his hand at digital content. His first
effort called Intertainer and based in Santa Monica, California, aims to
be the first broadband content-on demand network, offering movies,
television programming, and music to PCs over the Internet.
(Televisions are next.) With partners like Comcast, Sony and US
West as well as Sun Microsystems, Informix, and Intel, Intertainer
may have the finances to sustain it along the long road to consumer
adoption. Commercial trials are scheduled to begin in Philadelphia
and Denver this fall.
