INTERTAINER OFFERS INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS NEW DISTRIBUTION
AND REVENUE PLATFORM
VOD Leader Launches Film Marketplace And Gives Filmmakers
100 Percent of Profit
LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 24, 2002 - Offering a viable
alternative to the traditional film distribution model, Intertainer
today announced the launch of its Film Marketplace, a channel for
independent filmmakers to directly reach entertainment enthusiasts
and earn revenue. Intertainer CEO Jonathan Taplin made the announcement
during his keynote address at Streaming Media West, the world's
largest digital media technology event.
Through Intertainer's broadband service, available
at www.intertainer.tv,
filmmakers can submit their short subject or feature-length works
and set pricing for consumers. Filmmakers pay a flat fee, based
on the length of the film, to cover encoding, storage and streaming
costs. In turn, the filmmaker earns 100 percent of the revenue generated
by their film. Intertainer will begin taking submissions immediately
and will launch the independent film content to consumers later
this summer.
"As a former independent producer, I think this is
such an exciting time to be a filmmaker - digital video technology
is easy to use and accessibly priced, audiences have shown a consistent
appetite for indie work and online entertainment platforms such
as Intertainer are tearing down the barriers that shut out unknown
talent," said Taplin. "Intertainer's mission has always been to
use technology to deliver the vast array of high quality popular
culture to a mass audience. If we can inspire undiscovered talent
to pursue a dream of quality filmmaking, then we've done our small
part to ensure that the film industry of the future continues to
be innovative, unconventional and worth the price of admission."
Taplin has produced a number of award-winning films,
including Mean Streets, The Last Waltz, and To Die For.
