INTERTAINER BOLSTERS CABLE VOD PLATFORM THROUGH SATELLITE DELIVERY
DEAL WITH PANAMSAT
Cable's Leading Content Aggregator To Offer MSOs And Cable Networks
Greater Control Over VOD Content Distribution, Programming And Reporting
CULVER CITY, Calif., May 6, 2002 - Intertainer, the
leading broadband entertainment on demand content and services provider,
today announced a deal with PanAmSat that will enable Intertainer
to distribute VOD content to its cable affiliate partners via satellite.
The satellite delivery of VOD content will substantially improve
efficiencies by eliminating the need for manual input at the cable
headend.
In addition, Intertainer will work with PanAmSat to integrate satellite
delivery into the Intertainer Demand E.S.P. platform of VOD
services. Through this platform, cable operators and programmers
providing their own VOD services will be able to manage the flow
of VOD content to the headend, affording greater control over content
distribution, programming and reporting at both the national and
individual system level.
PanAmSat's satellite delivery architecture utilizes the VODCast
pitcher-catcher solution from SeaChange International, which is
fully interoperable with video servers from leading vendors using
industry standard protocols. With the VODCast platform, the content
is encrypted for distribution and is only decrypted at the headend,
remaining secure throughout the transport.
Using a Web-based interface, operators and programmers will be
able to remotely access the delivery system to monitor the status
of content during distribution, and eventually to program new titles,
delete content, customize programming for individual systems and
track usage. Such control will enable operators and programmers
to optimize scheduling and server space.
"We all understand the benefit of giving consumers greater
control over their programming choices, now Intertainer and PanAmSat
can give operators and programmers greater control over their on-demand
offerings with a highly scalable, fully automated solution,"
said Stephen Ste. Marie, Intertainer President & COO. "This
satellite delivery scheme can reach approximately 95 percent of
cable systems and is easily implemented with minimal effort required
on the part of the operator."
Intertainer has a system-wide agreement to deploy VOD to Adelphia
digital cable subscribers and has deployments on several Comcast
systems throughout the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area, for a current
total of approximately 300,000 VOD-enabled homes passed.
