Partnership Calls for Intertainer’s Integration into Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta Set-Top Boxes
(Culver City, CA / Atlanta, GA) - May 8, 2000 - Intertainer Inc. and Concurrent Computer Corporation
(NASDAQ: CCUR) have formed an important strategic alliance that calls for the integration
of Intertainer’s Broadband Entertainment On Demand network with Concurrent’s multiplatform
Video-On-Demand (VOD) System. Both companies will be displaying at the National Cable
Television Association convention in New Orleans this week. Visit Intertainer at booth
#1319 and Concurrent at booth # 1734.
Through this collaboration, Concurrent’s VOD System will enable the commercially
deployable Intertainer branded service to run on all Motorola (formerly General
Instrument) and Scientific-Atlanta set-top boxes. Additionally, Intertainer’s
“Content Distribution System” and “Royalty Accounting System” will be integrated
into Concurrent’s System. Both software systems contribute to the management of
Intertainer’s vast programming library, as well as Intertainer’s tracking and
reporting process for content providers. Together the companies will also develop
features that can enhance television services on the legacy set-tops, including
merchandising capabilities, advertising opportunities and the expansion of
Entertainment On Demand programming.
“We’ve selected Concurrent as our technology partner in part because the alliance
accelerates our market entry, but mostly because it associates us with a recognizable
and trusted industry brand,” says Jonathan Taplin, Intertainer’s president and chief
executive officer. “We’re confident that the expansion of this alliance will create
tremendous growth opportunities for both parties.”
In 1998, Intertainer formed its first alliance with Concurrent when it selected
the MediaHawkÔ Video Server to deploy its interactive applications to cable customers
who receive the service directly to their televisions.
“Concurrent recognized that the depth and breadth of Intertainer’s programming
content would make them one of the leading entertainment on demand service providers,”
said Steve Nussrallah, president and chief executive officer of Concurrent. “We
look forward to partnering with Intertainer and helping to enable their service on
television sets around the country.”
Intertainer’s broadband entertainment on demand service enables customers to
instantly watch a wide variety of entertainment with the click of a mouse or remote.
Intertainer subscribers get music, television programs, current movies and film
favorites within seconds to their PC or TV. Customers can view their choices in
full-screen, high-quality resolution with complete VCR-functionality, allowing
them to stop, rewind and fast-forward selections.
